One can easily see why a small group of producers in California (dubbed the Rhône Rangers) would choose the wines of France’s Rhône Valley for their inspiration. This region’s best winemakers produce touchstones of excellence, from the iconic, earthy Syrahs of the Northern Rhône, to the gnarly vines of up to 13 varietals in Châteauneuf du Pape, to the opulent Rosés of Tavel and finally to the gorgeous Viognier of Condrieu. We will dive into this historic region along with their American counterparts.
