After hosting the world release of Pete Seghesio's brand new San Lorenzo and Journeyman Wineries here three years ago, we're thrilled to be able to host the fourth anniversary dinner four years later. Many of you have met Pete, either here at a winemaker dinner when he was CEO/Winegrower of Seghesio Winery, or on one of our wine tours to Sonoma. His family owned Seghesio Winery for generations, but about five years ago, Pete and the rest of his extended family decided it was finally time to sell the iconic winery. One of the stipulations of the sale was an anti-complete clause that precluded Pete from selling his own red wine for three years.

But those three years were up in 2016 so Pete is now able to release his own ultra-premium wines under his new San Lorenzo and Journeyman labels. He produces Burgundian varietals (Chardonnay and Pinot Noir) under his Journeyman label, and old vine reds under his San Lorenzo label. These are some serious wines!

The namesake of the new winery is the San Lorenzo vineyard that was planted by Pete's great-grandfather in 1896 ... which means that many of the grapes in his red wines are coming from 100+ year old vines. Pete and his wife Cathy recently finished construction on their home located at the top of this beautiful vineyard ... complete with a fully operational winery in their sprawling basement. Those of you who went on our last Napa/Sonoma tour will have fond memories of the tractor ride through the vineyard with Pete's Uncle Freddy at the wheel and then enjoying an amazing lunch prepared by cousin Gia at their home afterwards.

Anyway, we hope you'll be able to join us for this third anniversary Journeyman/San Lorenzo winemaker dinner. Both Pete and Cathy will be here to host this dinner. Hope you can make it!

Wine notes and bottle prices are at the end of this announcement if you're interested. Here's the line-up:

WHEN
The dinners begin promptly at 5:00, but we HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend that you arrive earlier to better your chances of getting a closer parking space. The bar opens at 4:15 if you'd like to mingle with the winemaker and enjoy an adult beverage before dinner.

WHERE
Wine Vault & Bistro is located in the heart of San Diego between Little Italy and Old Town at 3731-A India Street on the upper terrace. Follow the black handrail from the sidewalk up the stairs to our front door.

PARKING
Valet parking is available for $8.00. The drop-off point is two doors south of our entrance in front of Shakespeare Pub at the corner of India and Winder. On-street parking is also usually available within a 3-block radius. Remember that it’s OK to park in yellow commercial zones on Sunday and that meters are also not enforced on Sunday. You can also park in the lot behind Shakespeare Pub two doors down, but do not park in El Indio's lot unless you want your car towed! If you can’t find parking next to the restaurant, there’s always LOTS OF PARKING on San Diego Avenue and the adjacent side streets just past the Chevron station across Washington Street. So please don't drive yourself crazy endlessly going around in circles waiting to pounce on that perfect spot when there's TONS OF PARKING less than three blocks away!

WINE QUANTITIES
We'll be pouring 3-5 ounce tasting portions of wine (see the line-up above) totaling 17 ounces, or the equivalent of three-quarters of a bottle of wine per person. Pour buckets are provided for designated drivers.

WINE SALES
Although some wines may be in limited quantities, all wines poured at this dinner will be available for purchase at the restaurant until sold out. We reserve the right to limit sales of any rare or allocated wines at our discretion.

WINE NOTES & BOTTLE PRICES
2018 Journeyman Rosé Egg ~ $24
(Sonoma County) Winemaker's Notes: Hand harvested from one of Sonorma County's finest vineyards, these grapes are cold-pressed then cold fermented in an egg-shaped concrete fermenter. The concrete egg, considered nature's perfect shape, produces a gentle vortex that suspends and stirs the wine unlike in a barrell. the result is beautiful vibrancy, minerality and creaminess that allows the full expression of the vineyard.

2017 Journeyman Chardonnay ~ $48
(Russian River Valley) Winemaker's Notes: Flavors of orchard fruit, vibrant mineralogy, lemon ice box pie creamniness. Each lot is harvested dead of night and pressed off as the sun is coming up. All solids go into the tank, are mixed and then broken down into barrels. Zio Tony Chard is the one component that goes into our egg. Each barrel is stirred every day during fermentation, then stirred once a week and topped until it is thru aging and then is moved into the cave where it is then stirred and topped once every two weeks. Only native cultures are used for fermentation. No S02 is added to any lot until it is ML complete. Full solids are preserved all the way until the end of aging. The wine is racked and blended into one tank where it is allowed to settle for upwards of 4 months. It was bottled in Dec, and then released May 1. We source for the two highest acid sites in Russian River AVA.

2017 Journeyman Pinot Noir ~ $54
(Russian River Valley) Winemaker's Notes: 2016 NOTES: Fresh black cherry, currant, and red raspberry flavors, layered with snappy but softened tannins, rich earthiness, and a long finish.

2017 San Lorenzo "Rock Garden" Zinfandel ~ $48
(Sonoma County) Winemaker's Notes: 2016 NOTES: Intense and densely structured black raspberry flavors, vibrant wild berry and briar cherry aromas. Huckleberry, sweet floral berry accents, white pepper notes, integrated fine wood tannin leads to a long rich finish.

2017 San Lorenzo "The Pearl" Red Field Blend ~ $70
(Sonoma County) Winemaker's Notes: 2016 NOTES: 70% Zinfandel, 5% Craignane, 15% Petite + 10% mix. Dense and rich, deep and dark with concentrated notes of wild blackberry, black raspberry and currant. Rich oak, densely structured layers of fruit with hints of black tea, black pepper and chocolate notes all intertwined with a rich oak component. Softened tannins that tantalize on the finish.

THE FINE PRINT
Due to fluctuations of supply, we reserve the right to make substitutions of equal or greater value in case any of the wines or foods become unavailable. Please, ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF 21 ... even if your babysitter flakes out on you at the last minute!

Hope to see you here. Buon appetito and cheers!
