Fun facts about the Summer Solstice:

  • Known as the longest day of the year
  • Peak hours of sunlight in the Northern Hemisphere
  • Technically the 2019 summer solstice occurs on Friday June 21st at 8:54am PST, but hey, who says you can't celebrate with wine & cider & food on Saturday?!
  • Q: How many hours of sunlight, exactly?

A: Around 15 in the San Francisco Bay Area (Up to 17 hours of sunlight in some areas.)

  • Signals the beginning of summer
  • Stonehenge, just sayin'...Pagans started the solstice party. The theory is that ancient people built Stonehenge to mark solstices and equinoxes. During the summer solstice, the sun rises just over the structure's Heel Stone and hits the Altar Stone dead center.
  • Q: What is "sunlight held together with water?"

A: Wine...according to esteemed astronomer Galileo
