For the tenth year in a row, Wine Vault & Bistro is pleased to announce the return of Bokisch Vineyards. We're serving an authentic Spanish-style 5-course dinner paired with four of their wines including their limited production Graciano that is usually not available to the public. Owners and winemakers Liz and Markus Bokisch will be down from Lodi to personally host this dinner. Those of you who went on our "Vineyards of California" tour several years ago will no doubt have fond memories of the dinner we had on their lawn next to the vineyards ... and especially drinking Tempranillo out of a "porron!" If you're not familiar with the wines of Bokisch Vineyards, here's some background info.

After Markus worked several years as a viticulturist for Joseph Phelps Vineyards in Napa Valley, he and Liz moved to Spain for a year to learn first-hand about growing their first love: Spanish varietals. Upon returning to the U.S. they discovered that Lodi had the ideal climate and terroir for growing Spanish varietals, and two years later Bokisch Vineyards was founded in the mid nineties when they planted their first vineyard there. They've been there ever since, and are pioneers not only in growing traditional Spanish varietals, but also in sustainable winegrowing practices.

We've carried Bokisch wines here almost since we first opened over twelve years ago and have constantly been amazed at their high QPR (Quality Price Ratio): the quality is high and the price is low. These are absolutely amazing values for solid wines of this complexity and quality. Each one, without exception is a winner, and we are confident that everyone attending will agree. Hope to see you here! Wine notes and bottle prices are at the end of this announcement if you're interested. Here's the line-up:

SPECIAL DIETARY NEEDS
Due to the complexity of this menu we regret that we will be unable to accommodate vegetarian requests. If you have any other special dietary needs, please let us know when you RSVP, not when you arrive. We will do our best to accommodate special dietary needs if we can and if given advance notice. CANCELLATION POLICY
You may cancel your reservation up to 72 hours in advance without penalty. NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED WITH LESS THAN 72-HOUR NOTICE unless we are able to replace your cancellation at the last minute. (See below for groups over 4 people.)

LARGE GROUPS (OVER 4)
If you want to come with a group of friends, please make one reservation for your entire party so we can reserve a block of seats for you ... however, in the interest of fairness to others, we reserve the right to limit the number of people on a single reservation at our discretion. The cancellation period for canceling the ENTIRE reservation without penalty is doubled from the standard 72 hours (see above) to 144 hours (6 days). If you need to cancel only 1 or 2 people, the standard 72-hour notice still applies.

WHEN
The dinners begin promptly at 5:00, but we HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend that you arrive earlier to better your chances of getting a closer parking space. The bar opens at 4:15 if you'd like to mingle with the winemaker and enjoy an adult beverage before dinner.

WHERE
Wine Vault & Bistro is located in the heart of San Diego between Little Italy and Old Town at 3731-A India Street on the upper terrace. Follow the black handrail from the sidewalk up the stairs to our front door.

PARKING
Valet parking is available for $8.00. The drop-off point is two doors south of our entrance in front of Shakespeare Pub at the corner of India and Winder. On-street parking is also usually available within a 3-block radius. Remember that it’s OK to park in yellow commercial zones on Sunday and that meters are also not enforced on Sunday. You can also park in the lot behind Shakespeare Pub two doors down, but do not park in El Indio's lot unless you want your car towed! If you can’t find parking next to the restaurant, there’s always LOTS OF PARKING on San Diego Avenue and the adjacent side streets just past the Chevron station across Washington Street. So please don't drive yourself crazy endlessly going around in circles waiting to pounce on that perfect spot when there's TONS OF PARKING less than three blocks away!

WINE QUANTITIES
We'll be pouring 3-5 ounce tasting portions of wine (see the line-up above) totaling 16 ounces, plus 1 ounce of sherry or the equivalent of well about three-quarters of a bottle of wine per person. Pour buckets are provided for designated drivers.

WINE SALES
Although some wines may be in limited quantities, all wines poured at this dinner will be available for purchase at the restaurant until sold out. We reserve the right to limit sales of any rare or allocated wines at our discretion.

WINE NOTES & BOTTLE PRICES
2018 Bokisch Rosado ~ $15
(Lodi) Winemaker's Notes: This is the second vintage of the Garnacha and Tempranillo Rosado and this wine is a fan favorite. A complex and beautifully balanced Rose, this wine sparkles with colors of salmon, rose gold, and pale ruby. A bouquet of rose petal, nectarine, and strawberry cream lead into secondary of aromas of misted concrete and earth. The Rosado has intense tropical flavors of kiwi, nectarine and under-ripe strawberry. This wine has a long, zippy, and weighty finish that leaves you wanting more.

2015 Bokisch Garnacha ~ $18
(Lodi) Winemaker's Notes: This wine has the brilliant red hue of gemstones. This vineyard never fails to produce an amazingly aromatic red with such a delicate color that is a tickly tease. Notes of ripe strawberry, raspberry and cherry candy mix together with a spicy blend of anise, clove and nutmeg. The well-balanced bright acidity add to the pomegranate-like tannins and flavors of cranberry sauce, watermelon and mango. This wine has a long finish which ends with a hint of dried vanilla beans. Pair with a tapa of Spanish Membrillo, Manchego and Jamon Serrano. This Garnacha will definitely be invited to the Bokisch family Thanksgiving dinner!

2016 Bokisch Monastrell ~ $20
(Lodi) Winemaker's Notes: This is the first vintage of Monastrell from the Sheldon Hills Vineyard and the change is noteworthy! The terroir is Redding Gravelly Clay Loam and the Sloughhouse AVA gets warmer evenings which create a bigger, bolder Monastrell. This wine is super dark and full of earthy aromas, oiled leather and white pepper. It has gripping tannins with a full bodied texture ending with a bright acidity. Flavors of ripe fresh blackberry, Santa Rosa plum, and chocolate covered coffee beans end with hints of licorice. Pair with espresso rubbed filet mignon and wild mushroom sauce.

2016 Bokisch Graciano ~ $20
(Lodi) Winemaker's Notes: First vintage featuring Terra Alta Vineyard Graciano with a vineyard designation! The violet-blue hue is the first signal that something special awaits in the glass. The aromas hit the nose in full force with forest fruit, blackberry pie, blueberry syrup and black licorice. Flavors of dark Bing cherry, vanilla bean, blueberry and sundried apricots linger in the mouth. Juicy sweet with a velvet finish, this wine will continue to age beautifully which is why it is often used in the blends of the Rioja region of Spain. Pair with roasted leg of lamb with garlic and rosemary.

NV Hidalgo Pedro Ximenez Sherry ~ $21 (500ml)
(Spain) Dense and velvety, and caramel in color, this wine is an explosion of raisins, dry figs and honey. It can be used for reduction sauces and for baking yet it is an excellent accompaniment to blue cheese, poured over vanilla ice cream or served alone.

THE FINE PRINT
Due to fluctuations of supply, we reserve the right to make substitutions of equal or greater value in case any of the wines or foods become unavailable. Please, ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF 21 ... even if your babysitter flakes out on you at the last minute!

Hope to see you here. Buon appetito and cheers!
