Olive trees, garrigue (shrub brush), lavender, thyme, and miles of vineyards set on rolling hills along the Mediterranean… This is the landscape of the Languedoc region, a sundrenched part of southern France that produces a myriad of wines from sparkling, rosé, and white, to red and dessert-style. Many noble native grape varietals thrive in that hot and dry climate, including Syrah, Grenache, Carignan, and Mourvèdre. The Mediterranean breezes are a cooling climactic influence, and white wines are becoming more important with Picpoul, Marsanne, Viognier, and Sauvignon Blanc growing successfully. “Languedoc” is no longer synonymous with commercial bulk wine! Come taste its breadth.
