The RODA vineyards

RODA is situated on a ‘balcony’ overlooking the Estación district of Haro, with the River Ebro winding at its feet forming capricious meanders. The Obarenes Mountains lie before it and the Cantabria Sierra is at its side. Three natural elements, the Obarenes, the Sierra and the River Ebro are all players in the zone’s climatic drama, a blend of Continental, Atlantic and Mediterranean – three climates in the same vineyards. This climatic combination acting in conjunction with the differences in exposure offered by the hills making up the region’s topology is one of the many factors that contribute to the RODA character.

The 1998 harvest produced the first vintage of CIRSION, the winery’s most exclusive and unique blend, made from vines selected for the high degree of tannin polymerization in their grapes. This influences the finesse, complexity and richness of the wine. The wine is only produced in vintages when climate conditions allow for this kind of maturation.

Furthermore, RODA II simply became known as RODA after the 2002 vintage. Since then, the house’s flagship wines are RODA and RODA I. The idea behind both wines is to convey a precise vision of the landscape, the vintage and the influence of three climates (Atlantic, continental and Mediterranean). The wines are blends of different parcels—those whose organoleptic profile recalls red fruit provide the basis for RODA, whereas those with black fruit characteristics go on to become RODA I.

Finally, the red wine Bodegas Roda SELA joined the RODA family in 2008. It is the range’s freshest and most cheerful member, made from vines that are 15 to 30 years old. The wine is clean and food friendly, but still preserves the elegance that characterizes its siblings. Production is limited to 80,000– 90 ,000 bottles per year.

La Horra

Bodegas LA HORRA departs from two main premises: the respect to the environment and the effort in research and development. It’s because of these two premises that CORIMBO was born in a sustainable way; getting to an agreement with Pedro and Pablo Balbás, vinegrowers from the area. Related to the vineyards for generations, they own 40 hectares of old vineyards in the best plots of La Horra and Roa. The vineyard is cultivated with maximum respect to the environment, following the lines of ecological viticulture. The aim is to produce wines capable of reflecting the landscape of Ribera del Duero, adding elegance and freshness to the peculiar strength of the Tinta Fina in this region.

BODEGAS LA HORRA provides a new version of Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero, taking advantage of the knowledge and experience gathered after 20 years of work in La Rioja.

CORIMBO

100% Tinta del país, fruit of a sustainable viticulture with bush vine vineyards in the area of La Horra and Roa (Burgos) with a 12-month aging period, in French and American oak barrels.

Coming from, in average, 25-year-old vineyards, it’s a wine with good intensity, red and black fruits. The oak is very well integrated, respecting the fruit. It adds a kind and creamy hint. Its voluminous in the mouth, with that fruit being present, ripe, but maintaining great freshness. The tannins are fine and silky.

CORIMBO I

Corimbo I is a fruit candy, a consistent ribera, a display of enological virtuosity.

It’s elaborated with Tinta del país comming from vineyards older than 50 years old, with low yields. In 2016 the prestigious British magazine Decanter, awarded it as “Platinum best in show”, the best red wine in the world over £15, elaborated with Spanish varieties. At the same time, it was the best wine in its category in the Decanter World Wine Awards 2016 (DWWA).
