“CDP” embodies the Southern Rhône’s culture of rich red blends, with Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah leading the pack of 13 (yes!) permitted grape varieties. Warmth and generosity typify the region’s style, with 12.5% minimum potential alcohol, the highest for dry French wines. Without a doubt the premier Southern Rhône appellation, the quality of Châteauneuf-du-Pape is uniformly fine; producers have to set aside at least 2% of their harvest, a safeguard against under-ripeness. The commune is very large with estates ranging from garage-level tiny to big historic estates, in a myriad of terroir expressions. Our stellar line-up, some from the stellar 2015 vintage, will include Domaine de la Tourade (Vacqueyras), Domaine de l’Espigouette (Gigondas), Château de la Font du Loup, Domaine Charvin, Domaine du Pegau, and Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe, culminating with the legendary Château de Beaucastel.
