Details

Over the coming weeks, Potek Winery will host a series of intimate talks, in a salon-like setting, that feature winemakers whose wine brands are heavily influenced by the immigration of their ancestors to the New Country. David Potter's great-grandfather, Berl Potek, for whom the winery is named, later changed his named to Benjamin Potter---an overture towards assimilation---when he entered the United States from Romania via Ellis Island in 1917.

On February 23rd, Potter will be joined by Alison Thomson, whose brand L.A. Lepiane is named for her great-grandfather, Luigi Lepiane, who arrived on the shores of Ellis Island from Piane Crati, the smallest village in Calabria, Italy in 1891. Thomson, former Assistant Winemaker at Palmina Winery, focuses her efforts on Italian varietal wines and will be discussing, as well as sharing with the audience, her Nebbiolo, which she makes in an Old World fashion, with extended barrel aging in 600 liter casks.
