The Chardonnay grape is often one of the most polarizing varietals for Americans. Some say, that they love Chardonnay because it has a buttery taste and plenty of weight on the palate. Others despise it for its unyielding simplicity and ability to sometimes produce rather insipid wines. I will tell you that Chardonnay can be either all or none of these things and is one of the versatile grapes in the world!
In this class, you will taste four still and sparkling wines made from Chardonnay from very different regions in the world (Napa, Burgundy, Chablis and South Africa) and we'll compare and the contrast the flavors and aromas of each one by using the deductive tasting method. We will also discuss the differences in terroir, historical traditions and winemaker decisions that make each of these wines so different even though they're all Chardonnay.
As usual with Drink Democracy LLC events, this course will be highly instructional and hands-on and students are expected to come prepared to learn and with questions. Our courses are geared towards the more serious wine drinker or those that wish to become one.
* The ticket price will include four pours of different styles of chardonnay, meat and cheese board and a souvenir tasting glass. Students should already be familiar with the deductive tasting method as we will spend very little time reviewing it
