Harriet Lembeck's Wine & Spirits Program, Inc.
This is the longest running wine class in the United States. Harriet Lembeck took it over from the late Harold J. Grossman, and also wrote the 6th and 7th editions of his classic textbook "Grossman's Guide to Wines, Beers and Spirits." The class is informative and fun, consisting of 10 weekly classes on wines of the world, and 4 weekly sessions on international spirits. These classes are given twice a year - in the Spring and Fall. At least 10 wines or spirits are tasted each week, with interactive class discussion. Complete handouts, plus open-book quizzes are part of the learning experience, as well as pointers on blind tastings. Certificates are given to those who complete the requirements. Harriet is a CWE (Certified Wine Educator) and also is a CSS (Certified Specialist of Spirits). This class was originally held at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, but is now held in her historic 18th C. townhouse. Many private wine events are also held in that beautiful space, which can be rented for private functions. A beamed ceiling and fireplace are part of the ambiance. Many of today's industry leaders are graduates of this famous class. Harriet is also a columnist for Beverage Dynamics.
