In ancient Greece, those who did not drink wine were regarded as barbarian. It had an alcohol content of more than 15% and was often aged for 15 to 20 years. Falernian was made from the Aminean grape growing in close proximity to Naples, but exported to Mt. Falernus between Latium and Campania.Surrentine: This was considered to be the wine of the middle-class people. Coming from the bay of Naples, this wine lacked richness and moist. Surrentime was referred as nothing, but generous vinegar kept for 5 to 20 years by Emperor Tiberius. His successor Caligula, on the other hand, called it worthless. The reaction of these high-status personalities could be understood as they had tasted much premium wines than this.Lesbian: No, this was not the wine of lesbians. Lesbian was a Greek wine coming from the island of Lesbos. It had a natural taste of salt water to it and was light and wholesome a pallet.Taenioticum: This wine was named after a long thin sandy rim near the western end of the Nile Delta. Taenioticum had an oily consistency, harsh flavor, and a different aroma. The oily texture used to get disappeared when taenioticum was mixed with waterAlban: Alban was a wine full of flavors. It had a mix of sweet, sharp and rough flavors. This wine of the royal people was kept for 15 years to get the perfect flavor.
