Understanding the Willamette Valley’s AVAs through Pinot noir. Pinot noir represents more than 75% of the acres under vine in the Willamette Valley, the highest concentration of a single variety in one region anywhere in the world. In this tasting seminar, we will discuss the history leading to the dominance of Pinot noir in the Willamette Valley, the go-to clones, the collaborative approach of the industry, the characteristics of each of Willamette Valley’s sub-AVAs and how their unique sense of place is expressed in the wines through some of the best terroir-driven examples of Pinot noir from each AVA. Presented by Sam Schmitt.
