Get your weekend off to a good start with our Top Flight Chardonnay Tasting. And all you have to do is stop by — we’ve got plenty of free parking.

Chardonnay might be the most misunderstood grape/wine out there. Why you ask? Because it’s responsible for some of the greatest white wines on the planet, but it’s also responsible for some of the worst. Stylistically, it can range from super crisp and minerally to super rich and oaky. Much like any other foodstuff, it’s impossible to pigeonhole this one. And we’re going to prove that at this tasting. Stop by, taste the different styles of Chardonnay, and leave with a newfound knowledge and respect for the grape. Oh yeah, leave with a few bottles too. Taste, learn, and save every Friday at Table Wine.

All of the featured tasting wines are 20% off by the bottle on tasting day only. Can’t make it by, but want to take advantage of the savings? Call us at 828.505.8588 and we can run your card over the phone.

1. 2016 Jean-Marc Brocard Chablis “Sainte Claire” (Burgundy, France) – We’ll start with Chablis, and this one is fermented entirely in stainless steel. Additionally, the malolactic is blocked. The result is a super clean, crisp, and zesty Chardonnay. “Pure and bracing, this white offers lemon, green apple and honey flavors. Balanced, winding down languidly on the earth-tinged finish.” – Wine Spectator – 90 points

2. 2015 Mount Eden Chardonnay “Old Vines” (Edna Valley, California) – Previously labelled as “Wolff Vineyard,” this epic Chardonnay from one of California’s blue chip estates comes from a vineyard planted back in 1976. These old vines yield intense grapes, and this one is fermented in barrel with full malolactic. The result is a rich, yet balanced Chardonnay with good fruit, judicious oak, and perfect balance.

3. 2014 Walter Hansel Chardonay “North Slope” (Russian River Valley, California) – This is a super special treat and there’s not much to be had. But I’m pouring it nonetheless! Stephen Hansel makes world-class wines. Often, his wines are some of the highest-rated of the vintage, but his prices are more than fair. This one is full, rich, and over the top good. “This wine exhibits plenty of honeyed brioche, with a greenish hue to its light-gold color, followed by notes of buttery hazelnuts, poached pear, pineapple and citrus oil. This is French in style as well, but with an almost lavish richness like a top-flight French Bâtard-Montrachet. It should drink well for 5-6 years.” – Wine Advocate – 93 points
