Taught by Certified Sommelier & Cru Wine Director, Zach Groseclose
Really learn about wine, once and for all. The Freshman level class will explore the components involved in tasting wines – learn how to correctly perceive acid, tannins, alcohol, and sweetness, and learn what those characteristics mean when describing a wine. Learn in-depth info on the major white grapes and red grapes of the world, and receive an overview of the major wine-producing countries, with emphasis on New World vs Old World characteristics. By the end of this course, you will be able to describe distinct styles of wine and what you like and don’t like. The Cru U series will go on to Sophomore, Junior and Senior levels throughout the year, and those who complete the whole series will have an extensive understanding of the world of wine, as well as exclusive access to future Cru U Alumni Events.
This course is THE consumer wine course in Tampa Bay.
The course is all four Tuesdays listed (once a week for four weeks in a row). When you go to sign up below you will just see the first Tuesday listed, but it is all four Tuesdays.
Zach Groseclose has been the Wine Director at Cru for two years. Zach’s passion for wine originates from his overall passion for knowledge. A deep connection to wine began in the wine programs of legendary New York City fine dining restaurants. His future wine career was cemented with one sip of Coche-Dury Corton-Charlemagne. Years of tastings and formal wine education led to sommelier positions and eventually wine retail. Zach has focused on discovering and championing small production, artisanal wines that speak of time and place – a story that he is passionate to share with us!
