About the Winery...
The Peri Bigogno Estate is situated on the Castenedolo Hills between Brescia and the south-western shores of Lake Garda in Lombardy. The Estate was at one time a 17th century palace owned by the Togni family, a prominent family of Brescia. The Palace was built with a large wine cellar.. the entrance from the first floor marked by huge cascading marble steps into the cool dark gives the impression that the Palace was built around the cellar. It is befitting as winemaking has been at the heart of the families that have inhabited it. The philosophy of Peri Bigogno derives from a passion for the protection and preservation of a territory that has been at times at risk of losing its historical, agricultural, and wine growing identity. In alignment with this philosophy, the Peri family purchased another vineyard in the region to prevent the destruction of the surrounding land from mining.
Andrea Peri is the Principal of the Peri Bigogno and President of the Talento Institute of Wine.*
About the Host...
Andrea grew up in the vineyard, the winery and the world of wine. This history and temperament is demonstrated in his passion for the land, the region and the Peri Bigogno wines. Andrea Peri took over reigns of Peri Bigogno in 2008 from his parents who in turn took over from Andrea's paternal grandparents. During this time, in addition to growing the Peri Bigogno presence internationally, Andrea has developed wine-tourism activities in the region of Lombardia in cooperation with the municipalities, wineries and others. Andrea also instructs at the Catholic University in Piacenza (Università Cattolica di Piacenza) on the subject of the Italian Wine Market as a visiting Professor. This year Andrea is celebrating 10 years being at the helm of Peri Bigogno.
*The Talento Institute's mission is to recognize excellence in traditional method sparkling Italian wines. Talento wines are made from Chardonnay, Pinot Nero and Pinot Bianco. These wines are made in accordance with strict requirements very similar to the wines of Champagne.
