Cru Beaujolais
Wed May 30, 5-7pm, 20% off sale all day
“Cru Beaujolais” wine can be exceptional, is underappreciated probably because of Beaujolais Nouveau, which is a simple, cheap wine supported by huge marketing. Partially for that reason, one can find great values in Cru Beaujolais. These are age-worthy wines that come from one of ten cru villages. Come and taste superb examples from two of the villages, Fleurie (known for elegant, almost feminine wines) and Régnié, one of the smaller villages known for fuller and more masculine wines. Beaujolais is technically part of Burgundy, where cru’s range in the three digit dollar figures. Where else can you get Cru’s for under twenty dollars.
White Beaujolais, which is chardonnay, is rare but also great value….as it’s, in effect a white Burgundy. Don’t take our word for it, come and try these three wines.
Dom des Nugues Villages Blanc, Chardonnay, Crisp White, Beaujolais, Fr, This wine has an attractive, freshly ripe nose that carries through to the palate – a delicious, vibrant, clean and fruit-forward unoaked Chardonnay with nicel weight and viscosity, as well as balancing crisp acidity.
Dom des Nugues Fleurie, Gamay, Fresh Red, Beaujolais, Very well defined with just a hint of licorice in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with a succulent entry, nicely judged acidity and silky tannins
Dom Raphael, Chopin Caprice, Gamay, Fresh Red, Régnié, Beaujolais, Fr, Red purple, almost black robe, beautiful legs, a cherry and vanilla nose; a mouth with a smooth and powerful attack, its tannins fade away. A wine with a lingering flavor
