Do you know why Madeira is important to American History, or how many styles there are of Sherry and why it's production method is not like any other fortified wine?

You do not have to be one of our Level 3 students to enroll for this course.  All you have to do is be passionate about wine!

Fortified Wines

Fortified wines are defined as any wine to which alcohol, usually in the form of neutral grape spirits, has been added to increase the final alcohol content of the wine – hence the name "fortified.

This course covers the following topics:
  • Sherry
  • Mistelle
  • Málaga
  • Montilla-Moriles
  • Vermouth
  • Marsala
  • Setúbal
  • Vin Doux Naturel
  • Liqueur Doux Naturel
  • Port
  • Madeira
  • New World fortified wines
You will also learn about:
  • Formal Sommelier service for fortified wines
  • Tasting etiquette for fortified wines
  • Professional, technical tasting techniques
  • The history and development of each major fortified wine style
  • Fermentation, distillation and production techniques
  • You will receive more than 400 pages of material, specifically designed for this course and taste about 60 different fortified wines, including older vintage wines
