Please join us Wednesday, April 25th, any time between 4:30-7:30pm, when we welcome David Strada to our wine bar. David is the U.S. Marketing Manager for New Zealand Winegrowers and will present a flight of some of his favorite Pinot Noirs from the beautiful island country.

Mt. Beautiful – Founded in 2003 by David Teece and his wife, Leigh, the Mt. Beautiful estate is surrounded by the Kaikoura Seaward Mountains and the Wairau River right below Mt. Beautiful at the northern fringe of North Canterbury on New Zealand’s South Island. Their 75 hectares of sustainably farmed vines are planted primarily to Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir with smaller amounts of Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Riesling.

Brightwater – Brightwater Vineyards was established in 1992 when Gary and Valley Neale planted vines on the Hope Plains of Nelson overlooking the town of Brightwater. At the time, they were one of the first wine estates in the area, yet thanks to their hard work and dedication over the years, they have helped raise the bar for the entire region. Their Pinot Noirs routinely win awards and accolades and the winery is considered to be one of the best in New Zealand today.

Greywacke – Kevin Judd was born in England and grew up in Australia yet made his home in New Zealand where he was the founding winemaker for Cloudy Bay. In 2009, he started his own label, ‘Greywacke’, named for the rounded greywacke river stones found all over the country and specializes in Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc sourced from ‘mature vineyards within the central Wairau Plains and Southern Valleys’ of Marlborough.

Felton Road – Nigel Greening purchased Cornish Point Vineyard in 1998, and just two years later, the Elms Vineyard that was originally planted in 1991 on Felton Road in the Bannockburn District of Central Otago. Today, Blair Walter is the chief winemaker who crafts world class Felton Road wines: primarily Pinot Noir with smaller amounts of Chardonnay and Riesling, from the four estate Demeter certified biodynamic vineyards.

Pegasus Bay – The Donaldsons were early pioneers of North Canterbury having been involved with wine cultivation since the 1970s. Today, Pegasus Bay is still family run: founder, Ivan is in charge of viticulture, his son, Matthew is  winemaker, his son, Edward serves as  Global Marketing Manager and his other son, Paul is the General Manager of the winery. They produce Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay and of course excellent Pinot Noir estate wines.

Giesen  – Growing up in Germany, the Giesen brothers, Theo, Marcel and Alex were well acquainted with wine and fermentation science having a sommelier for a grandfather and a brewer for a great-grandfather. When Theo and Alex traveled the world, they landed in New Zealand and never left, determined to plant a vineyard in the cool climate of Christchurch. Their younger brother, Marcel, who studied viticulture and enology, joined them as winemaker and they released their first vintage in 1984. Today, the Giesens produce many different varietal wines and are known especially for their Pinot Noirs.
