Jeff Cohn Wine Dinner featuring Jeff Cohn, Proprietor & Winemaker

The Mercury 11909 Preston Road, Suite 1418,  Dallas  Tx  75240

"One of my favorite winemakers in all of California is Jeff Cohn. He continues to show a Midas touch with many grape varieties. Kudos to Jeff for this incredible, creative and brilliant portfolio of wines." Robert Parker 12/16

Starting as staff eonologist at Rosenblum Cellars in the 1990s, Jeff earned the respect and trust of Zinfandel legend Kent Rosenblum and was quickly named winemaker. There he was instrumental in creating cutting-edge barrel and yeast programs, resulting in his 2003 Rockpile bottling becoming the first Zinfandel ever listed in The Wine Spectator's Top 100. Since starting his own label in 1996 Jeff has produced an impressively consistent range of Zinfandels & Rhone varietals that are among the most highly rated of any estate in California, balancing the pure expression of California fruit with the Rhône-influenced winemaking of Jeff's style.

Join us for a very special evening of wine and food as we welcome Jeff Cohn on his first market visit to Texas. Jeff will lead us through the pairings of his current releases with Chef Chris Ward's dynamic menu.  Only 28 seats are available for this special event so don't delay! For reservations please contact Jasper Russo at 972/685-2320 or Rick Brown at 214/350-1271.

Menu  Chef Chris Ward

Reception

First Date 2016

60% Grenache Blanc from Santa Ynez, 40% Roussanne from Stagecoach Vineyard. Everyone remembers their First Date. That bright feeling-the light and airy beginning, leading into more depth and interest, finishing with a deeper connection that keeps you wanting more.

First Course

Shrimp & Stone Ground Grits With Poached Egg And Benton's Ham

Viognier 2 Guys 2 Barrels 2013 (92rp)

"Another terrific vintage for this cuvee, which is from a collaboration between Jeff Cohn and Yves Gangloff, the 2013 Viognier 2 Guys 2 Barrels is one of the few Viogniers from California to have true Condrieu-like minerality and richness. Giving up lots of apricot, orange blossom, honeycomb and brioche, this fabulous white has full-bodied richness, notable concentration and a still fresh, focused and pure feel on the palate."

The Imposter 2013 (91ws)

"Eclectic, eccentric and fun to drink, with aromas of huckleberry and spiced cinnamon opening to zesty, briary flavors of blueberry, smoky grilled anise and cracked pepper. Zinfandel, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Grenache, Carignane, Mourvèdre, Alicante Bouschet, Black Muscat and Viognier. Drink now through 2021."

Second Course

Grilled Quail With Field Pea Salad And Natural Pan Drippings

Zinfandel Iron Hill 2013 (93rp)

"Cohn compares this wine to a French Côte-Rôtie, and I can see the legitimacy in his analysis. The wine has a fragrance in the nose that almost gives the sense that there are some white grapes contributing to the floral notes in the bouquet. There aren't any, as this is 100% Zinfandel. Still, the complexity and richness are endearing. This fleshy, medium to full-bodied wine displays loads of black raspberry, licorice and a touch of tapenade. This is a beauty and quite a complex offering for Zinfandel."

Zinfandel Cassatta 2014  (95rp)

"I tasted a half-dozen Zinfandel-based cuvées from Jeff Cohn - and all of them merit serious attention from wine consumers. The 2014 Zinfandel Cassata Vineyard is 75% Zinfandel and 25% Petite Sirah with 15% whole clusters. This is a killer Zinfandel with floral notes, loads of blackberry and blackcurrant fruit, medium to full-bodied and, somehow, hiding all of its high-octane 15.6% alcohol. Stunningly floral, rich, full-bodied and compelling, this is a stunner to drink over the next 7-8 years."

Third Course

Nueske's Wrapped Chicken Stuffed

With Herbed Sausage With Lyonnaise Potatoes And Brocollini

Mourvedre Twist of Fate 2013 (93+rp)

"This meaty, black olive, herbal, peppery and red and black fruited beauty has terrific complexity as well as medium to full-bodied richness, beautiful mid-palate concentration and building, grippy tannin that clamp down on the finish. There's beautiful ripeness here."

Syrah Chirats 2014  (95rp)

"A collaboration with Yves Cuilleron from France's Northern Rhône. This is made from what is believed to be Chapoutier suitcase clones. Beautiful elegance and complexity with notes of blueberry, blackberry, floral notes, and great acid, this is a dead ringer for a Northern Hermitage or Côte-Rôtie. A gorgeous, dense purple color to the rim, sweet, juicy fruit, full body, but again, incredible freshness and vibrancy. This is a stunner and comes in at 15.2% natural alcohol, but seems light on its feet. As it sits in the glass, some bacon fat, lard and meaty notes also emerge."

Dessert

Ice Box Peach Pie with Cinnamon Cream

Pure Yum 2014 (94rp)

"The 2014 Proprietary Red #Pure Yum is a blend of 85% Syrah, 7% Petite Sirah and the rest Zinfandel and Alicante, with 50%-100% whole clusters, depending on the lot. An intoxicating blast of blue, red and black fruits, spice, flowers and earth jump from the glass of this wine, which really turned me on aromatically. In the mouth it's medium to full-bodied, beautifully pure, rich, quite creative and, for lack of a better word, damn yummy. This is a beauty to drink over the next 5-7 years."
