Cost: $350

This full-day course covers the grapes, wine styles, terroir, market factors, business models, gastronomy and history.  The flavor and aroma profiles of Rioja as it ages and the modern and traditional wines will be covered in depth.  Learn what makes Rioja unique among the worlds’ most respected global wine regions. 

Light bites, typical of the Rioja region, will be served during the course for wine and food pairing exercises.

The course will be followed by an online exam of one hour, given at a date convenient to the student. 

Certification:

Upon passing exam grade, a Certificate will be issued directly through the DOCa Rioja Consejo Regulador.

  • History, Influences of the British and the French
  • Grape Varieties
  • Terroir Characteristics, including the sub-regions and seven tributary valleys of the Ebro River
  • Production
  • Aging, Oak regimens, Outcomes of oak
  • Wine Styles
  • Business Models - Bodegas, Coops, Consejo Regulador
  • Gastronomy and Culture
  • Vintages

Exam details:  Multiple Choice and Short Answer, plus one essay question.  NO WINE TASTING.

Instructor:  Nina Sventitsky is a 'Certified Rioja Wine Educator', having gone through the inaugural program by the Consejo Regulador in Logroño, Rioja in 2016.  

The NASA Rioja Master Certification is the only course of its kind given in North America and is recognized by the DOCa Rioja Consejo Regulador in Logroño, Spain.
