April 28th: Introduction to Spanish wines

Join us as we learn the story of Spain’s winemaking history, key regions and native varietals.

Spain is an ancient wine-producing country that vies with France and Italy as the number-one wine producer in the world. With a heritage of over three thousand years, there's evidence to prove that vines were planted in the Peninsula long before the Phoenicians founded Cadiz and established it as a trading post. Wines from along the sunny Mediterranean coast all the way to the cooler Atlantic coast were traded and consumed by the Romans.

We will taste wines ranging from aromatic white wines of Galicia and Rueda to fresh rosés from Navarra and the various red wine styles from native varietals such as Tempranilo, Graciano, Garnacha and Monastrell.

Cava ~ Rias Baixas ~ Rueda ~ Navarra ~ Valdeorras ~ Rioja ~ Ribera del Duero ~ Yecla ~ Priorato

Wines generously provided by Aviva Vinos and Olé Imports and paired with artisanal meats and cheese curated by our “Los Amigos del Vino” partner Despaña.

We love Spanish white wines. Spain is home to some of the most diverse white grapes on the planet and Spanish Rosado’s are some of the most versatile and fun Spanish wines that are easy, simple to understand and an uncomplicated hot weather pleasure to drink.  All are made by passionate families generally from farms handed down from generation to generation and still made the same way using indigenous grapes and traditional methods.

We will taste the aromatic wines of "Green Spain" and minerally-driven wines from Rueda and discover the various shades of Rosé from Bierzo, Navarra and Madrid.

May 12th: Red Wines of Spain

Join us as we explore the vast differences and similarities in aroma and texture to identify your style of wine.

Traditional meets Modern. Each style offers its own expression of terroir. Enjoy an opportunity to find your style. Whether traditional, wines typically made in an Old World, earth-driven style upholding the methods of that region. Or modern, wines that are produced in a New World style, placing more emphasis on fruit and new oak.  Sip your way through Spain discovering the climatic influences on the wines, from the cool Atlantic wine made with Mencía in the Northwest to the interior region of Spain where Tempranillo thrives with the Continental influence, and all the way over to the Mediterranean coast where Garnacha, Cariñena, and Monastrell feel at home.

We will taste the Atlantic influenced wines of Galicia, travel inland to the Continental wines of Ribera del Duero, Rioja, Navarra and La Mancha and finally reach the Mediterranean coast to taste the wines from Terra Alta and Jumilla.

May 19th: Cava & Jerez

Come uncover the wondrous aromas and textures sherry has to offer and taste the richness and minerality that makes cava unique.

Spain’s first bottle of sparkling wine was created in 1872 using the Champagne method in the Catalonia region and named after the stone cellars (cavas) in which the wine is matured. Cava goes through the traditional method of secondary fermentation in the bottle to get its bubbles. It can be white or rosé and is usually a blend of Xarel-lo, Macabéo, and Parellada grapes. Sherry captures you with its intense aromatics and electrifying acidity. You never smelled anything like this stuff. Sherry is often misunderstood and misrepresented. 3,000 years of history have given it its own identity.

Though Cava and Jerez are in two opposite areas of Spain, they have more in common than you would think:  acidity, calcareous soils, the importance of yeast, unique aging methods and a range of styles.

 Brut Nature ~ Reserva ~ Vintage Cava ~ Manzanilla ~Fino ~ Palo Cortado ~ Amontillado ~ Oloroso ~ PX
