Kings & Convicts Brewing Co. beers all come with a story, but none as important as the soon-to-be-released, Stew’s Brew.  On April 7th at 1 p.m., Kings & Convicts will release a limited edition Hefeweizen beer to support Dr. Stewart Goldman, one of Chicago’s leading pediatric brain tumor specialists at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital, who was instrumental in the treatment of Benny Watters, son of Kings & Convicts co-founder, Brendan Watters, who lost his battle at the age of five after fighting the disease with Dr. Stew for almost three years.
Kings & Convicts will celebrate Benny’s life and honor all that Dr. Stew has done for pediatric brain tumor research, at the Stew’s Brew Unveiling Event at their Highwood Brewery Taproom, 523 Bank Lane, at 1 p.m.  100 % of proceeds from the sale of Stew’s Brew will go to Benny’s World, a non-profit foundation established by Benny’s family to fund research to find a cure for pediatric brain stem tumors, specifically targeting Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). Benny Watters was diagnosed with a DIPG on January 18, 2008, a few months before his 3rd birthday. On September 8, 2010, after 33 months battling his tumor, sweet Benny passed away.
“We all miss Benny but most importantly we are thankful to have had him in our lives.  He had a great sense of humor and fantastic attitude to life and we always celebrate that,” says Watters. “Benny loved Dr. Stew and would draw pictures of himself and Dr. Stew fishing and having a beer. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate Benny and Dr. Stew than with this special brew.”
Kings & Convicts will release 150 cases of Stew’s Brew.  A live auction for the first 20 cases of Stew’s brew will take place at 1:30 p.m. with all proceeds benefiting Benny’s World.  Aside from supporting this great cause and being amongst the first to taste Stew’s Brew, there will be plenty to do including cornhole games, food and live music.
