Little-known fact: New York is the third largest wine-producing state in the U.S., according to the Wine Institute. There are five major wine growing regions in New York, ten official viticultural areas and more than 420 wineries operating within the state.
We invite you to join us for a wine pairing dinner featuring the wines of Bedell Cellars from North Fork of Long Island. Through six wines and three pairing courses you’ll explore the exceptional quality of white, red and sparkling wines coming from this winegrowing region and learn about the pioneers of winemaking in Long Island.
Bedell Cellars:
Bedell Cellars is a pioneering winery in the Long Island wine region dedicated to quality, creativity, and sustainable farming. Bedell has hand-crafted wines in small batches for 34 years using methods that define the regional style – artistically blending grapes grown in their unique maritime terroir. Bedell stands at the forefront of excellence and is widely regarded as the benchmark winery in the eastern United States. Bedell’s 2009 Merlot was the only red wine served at the 2013 Inaugural Luncheon, marking the first time in American history that a New York wine was served at a Presidential Inauguration.
Richard Olsen-Harbich:
Richard is a pioneer in Long Island winemaking with over 30 years of experience. He wrote the North Fork of Long Island appellation into existence in 1986, and is the only Winemaker in Eastern North America to use entirely indigenous yeasts. Rich developed the first Bordeaux/Long Island consultation partnership with M. Paul Pontallier of Chateau Margaux and also helped found Long Island Sustainable Winegrowing, the first third party certification program for vineyard sustainability on the East Coast.
