Ch Palmer Blanc 2014

At the beginning of the 20th century, owning Château Palmer had a few advantages. One was the custom of producing a few barrels of white wine purely for the owners' consumption. The tradition continued until the late 1930s, and only ended with the outbreak of war. Then in the late 1990s, a discovery was made in the estate's cellars: two bottles of Vin Blanc de Palmer from 1925. The long-lost wine gave the teams in the Village and vineyard an idea. So by the early 2000s, Muscadelle, Sauvignon Gris and Lauzet vines were back in the ground, and in 2007, the Vin Blanc de Palmer was reborn. The wine is produced from an unusual blend of 50% Muscadelle, 35% Lauzet and 15% Sauvignon Gris. Production hovers at around 100 cases.

Alter Ego de Palmer 2012

"Another brilliant example from administrator Thomas Duroux and his team, Palmer's 2012 Alter Ego (51% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Petit Verdot), offers up plenty of blackberry and crème de cassis notes along with some spring flowers, licorice and subtle background oak. Opulently textured, full-bodied and stunning, this is an outrageously successful second wine to drink over the next 12-15 years." 93rp

Alter Ego de Palmer 2014

"The Alter Ego de Palmer 2014 is a blend of 52% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Petit Verdot. It has an opulent, glossy bouquet with layers of small dark cherries and plenty of glycerin. The palate is more reserved than the bouquet suggests: saturated tannins, a little chewiness on the entry but suppler towards the finish. It feels very linear in keeping with the style of the vintage, the finish a little sweet than its peers with a dab of licorice on the aftertaste." 90-92rp

Ch Palmer 2008

"The 2008 Palmer, which tips the scales at 13.5% natural alcohol (among the highest achieved at this property), is a blend of 51% Merlot, 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 8% Petit Verdot. It is a massively rich wine with an inky/purple color, sensational density of fruit, velvety tannins, a glorious bouquet of black fruits, licorice, incense, and subtle barbecue smoke, a superb, full-bodied mouthfeel, and a fabulous texture and length. With several minutes of swirling, an enticing floral note emerges. The wine's glycerin and sweetness suggest it will be approachable 3-4 years after bottling, yet keep for three decades or more. It appears to be among the finest Palmers made this decade, rivaling both the 2005 and 2000." 95-97rp

Ch Palmer 2012

"Château Palmer is one of the vintage's superstars. Opaque purple, with a gorgeous nose of blueberry, blackberry fruit, licorice, incense and graphite, the wine has a multi-dimensional, skyscraper-like richness, stunningly well-integrated acidity, tannin, wood, and alcohol, a finish of close to 45 seconds and a full-bodied mouthfeel. This is a great wine from Margaux in 2012 and one of the vintage's most remarkable efforts. Anticipated maturity: 2022-2040+. The final blend was 48% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot." 96rp
