One of the most interesting things that we have been doing as a wine & spirit merchant over the last few years, is learning more & more about high quality whiskeys. We enjoy drinking them at home, we are loving a good cocktail before dinner at a nice restaurant, and we are having a blast educating our clients about the world of craft spirits. And it's ironic, because, in an interesting way it brings us back to our own roots as a merchant. In 1972, our parents, Tom & Marie Murray left New York City, to buy a liquor store on the Jersey Shore and make it into a wine, spirit and cheese shop. They were themselves budding wine connoisseurs, but spirits were very popular in those days (especially brown ones!) so our parents named the shop : The Wine & Whiskey Basket. The New York Times wrote an article about their new endeavor in 1974, saying 'Tom and Marie Murray have altered its image (of a liquor store), it is now a vintage wine, cheese and gourmet food center. "We're still a good place to get all the booze you want for a cocktail party," Mr. Murray said, "But we would love to cater your wine and cheese affair." Dad saw the pendulum swinging into more wine sales in the 1980's, '90's and beyond, but now that pendulum is swinging back with a fervent interest in spirits. Don't get us wrong, we are all still drinking really good wine, we are simply mixing it up with some cool spirits as well! So you could say we are 'back on the Wine & Whiskey'!!!

We will taste 4 whiskies side-by-side, including FEW Bourbon, Michter's Single Barrel Rye, Glenmorangie 10 Year and Laphroig 10 year, tasting Bourbon, Rye and two Single Malt Scotch whiskies, so you can taste the differences and learn about the distilling processes from Steve, and have a good time:) Cheers! the Murray family
