Fine Vintage is proud to offer the WSET Level 1 Award in Sake. This is an introductory course to the dynamic world of Japanese sake. There are no pre-requisites to take this course.

Course content: The Level 1 Award in Sake course focuses on learning the basics on how sake is made, how to taste and describe it, and the different styles and grades. You will also learn about how to pair it with food, serve and store it.

Instructor: David Munro is your instructor for this course. David is one of our lead instructors and spent several years living in Japan. He has taken the highest levels of sake courses in the English world, is fluent in Japanese, and is passionate about sake. We call David the sake samurai!

Course Format: The Level 1 Award in Sake is a one-day course and runs from 9:30am to 5:30pm with a one-hour break for lunch.

Study Guide: A PDF copy of the WSET Level 1 Award in Sake Study Guide will be sent to your email address upon registration. A hard copy of this Study Guide will be provided to you at the start of the course.

Tastings: More than a dozen different sake styles and grades are included in the tuition. These samples are designed to provide you with the best representation of the diverse range of sake found in Japan.

Examination: The WSET Level 1 in Sake exam involves a multiple-choice paper consisting of 30 questions. The exam takes place at the end of the 1-day course. It usually takes students less than 25 minutes to complete. Upon successful completion, you will receive the WSET Level 1 Certificate in Sake, which is a formal qualification in sake. The exam is based on the contents of this Study Guide.

Who Takes These Courses: The WSET Level 1 in Sake is designed for those who are new to Japanese sake. It is ideal for those working in retail, restaurants, and agencies who wish to enhance their professional knowledge. It is also ideal for those who are not involved in the trade who seek to expand their understanding of the fascinating and diverse world of sake. No pre-requisite is required to take this course.
