Saturday Samplings at The Refectory Wine Shop!

Legends of Southern France!

The array of styles from this fascinating region offers wonderful diversity for the enthusiast - from dry and mineral white wines through crisp rosés to deep, structured red wines and on to unctuous sweet and fortified wines!

The Wines

Cave de Pomerols Picpoul de Pinet, Languedoc  $9.99
Fresh and fine aromas of grapefruit and exotic fruit. Lime flavors, with typical focusing acidity, are hallmarks of Picpoul. One of the best values in the white wine section by far.

Bailli Cotes du Provence Rose, Provence  $12.99
Named after an 18th-century French admiral, this wine is made by the Gilardi family. It’s a ripe, dry and sustaining wine that has ripe spice and pepper, fresh red fruits and a keenly refreshing aftertaste. It is ready to drink.

Chateau L’Argentier Cinsault Vielles Vignes, Sommieres  $12.99
Located in the town of Sommières, between Nîmes and Montpellier, Château l’Argentier has run by the same family since 1937. This Cinsault it is beautifully soft and approachable, full of raspberries and red currants, with soft tannins and gently creamy texture and flavor.

Castelmaure Col des Vents, Corbieres    $11.99
89p Robert Parker:   “What could be a hidden gem in the vintage, the 2015 Corbières Col des Vents is 50% Carignan, 30% Grenache and 20% Syrah that’s aging all in tank. A big, sexy, fruit-loaded effort, it offers a liquid blackberry like style of fruit as well as crushed herbs, pepper and a hint of earth. It should drink nicely right out of the gate”

Chateau Ponzac “Patiemment”, Cahors   $19.99
90 p Wine Enthusiast:” The middle wine in the trilogy of wines from the Molinié family at Ponzac, this is a ripe wine that has density, some firm tannins and rich black-plum fruit flavors. It is concentrated and firm at first and then fills out with the richness.”
