Chardonnays Encounter

Wed March 7, 5-7pm, 20% off sale all day

Chardonnay is a relatively easy grape to grow, so it’s grown all over the world. That doesn’t mean that terroir isn’t important. For instance, Willamette Oregon chardonnay was inferior because growers used clones from California that didn’t do well in Willamette. Eventually some savvy growers (such as Dick Shea) realized this and switched to clones from Burgundy, which work well in Willamette. On Wednesday you’ll have a chance chardonnays from Burgundy, Willamette Valley and Russian River Valley, Sonoma.

Dureuill Rully 1er Cru Raclots, Chardonnay, Rich White, Rully, Burgundy, FR, Y, The beautifully balanced nose is dominated by lime with a touch of yellow plum over finely crushed oyster shells, as well as freshly cut herbs. The palate mirrors the nose with endless layers of fruit, white rocks and subtle baking spices on the finish,

Shea Wine Cellars, Chardonnay, Rich White, Willamette, OR, Y, "It gives up an alluring perfume of toasted nuts, poached pear, apple, and baking spices. Medium to full-bodied on the palate with layered fruit, it displays good volume, excellent balance, savory, dry flavors, and a moderately lengthy finish"

Marimar La Masia, Chardonnay, Rich White, Russian River Valley, Sonoma, CA, Y, Fresh buttery fruit fragrances, full, delicious, balanced, complex and long; Intense nose of peach and stone fruit; very aromatic and floral, with notes of jasmine. The palate is concentrated and creamy, reminiscent of baked apple, with a nice oak frame and great balance between the acidity and the richness.
