In this series you will be introduced to three key winegrowing areas of France: Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhone Valley. We will explore France’s most noted appellations and the distinctive red wines they produce, and compare and contrast them with the USA’s three key wine regions: California, Oregon and Washington. You will gain a better understanding of why the same grape variety, grown in multiple regions, will have similar characteristics yet achieve its own unique “personality” in the finished wine and determine if “terroir” plays a significant role.
By the end of these sessions you’ll be able to match well-known appellations/AVA’s (American Viticultural Areas) with the regions in which they are located and their principal grapes and wine styles. This will enable you to examine a bottle of table wine and identify:
• The region where it was produced
• The type(s) of grapes it contains
• How it’s likely to taste
In each seminar, six wines will be enjoyed with a variety of cheeses and charcuterie selected to enhance the experience.
