Wine Vault & Bistro is pleased to announce a great new wine and food pairing dinner for you and your sweetheart to share this Valentine's Day.  Since Valentine's Day falls on a Wednesday this year, we'll also serve the Valentine's menu on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday for those who want to celebrate over the weekend.

Before we designed this special menu, we did some research and found 33 different foods that have purported aphrodisiac qualities and were able to incorporate a whopping 21 of them into this menu!  (So if you don't get "lucky" after having this menu it's not our fault!!!)  Here they are in alphabetical order with the ones in this menu highlighted in ALL CAPS: ALMONDS, Aniseed, ARUGULA, ASPARAGUS, avocado, Bananas, BASIL, BROCCOLI RABE, carrots, CHILI PEPPERS, CHOCOLATE, COFFEE, coriander, fennel, FIGS, GARLIC, GINGER, HONEY, Licorice, MUSTARD, Nutmeg, OLIVE OIL, OYSTERS, pineapple, pine nuts, Pomegranate, Pumpkin Seeds, RASPBERRIES, STRAWBERRIES, TRUFFLES, VANILLA, WATERMELONS and last but definitely not least, WINE!

The wines are equally special, too, and include an elegant Rosé sparkler from the south of France, a wonderful Chardonnay from the Sonoma Coast, a California Pinot Noir and the delicious Daou Cabernet from Paso Robles.  As always, we'll end with our legendary (decaf) Irish Coffee.

Cost is a mere $69.50 per person and includes all 5 courses, each paired with a special wine or beverage.  Here's the line-up.  Wine notes and bottle prices are at the end of this announcement if you're interested.

NOTE: Due to the complexity of this menu we regret that we will be unable to accommodate vegetarian requests.

RSVP ~ (619) 295-3939
Reservations are highly recommended!  We're very good about returning calls promptly, so please leave a message with the best time to return your call if you get the dreaded voice mail.  Sales tax and an 18% gratuity will be added to the cost of all dinners.

LOCATION & PHONE
Wine Vault & Bistro is located in the heart of San Diego between Little Italy and Old Town at 3731-A India Street on the upstairs terrace.  Follow the black handrail up the stairs from the sidewalk to our front door.  Our phone number is (619) 295-3939.

PARKING
Valet parking is available for $8.00 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  The drop-off point is two doors south of our entrance in front of Shakespeare Pub at the corner of India and Winder.  On-street parking is also usually available within a 3-block radius.  Remember that it’s OK to park in yellow commercial zones after 6:00 and that meters are also not enforced after 6:00.  You can also park in the lot behind Shakespeare Pub two doors down, but do not park in El Indio's lot unless you want your car towed!  If you can’t find parking next to the restaurant, there’s always LOTS OF PARKING on San Diego Avenue and the adjacent side streets just past the Chevron station across Washington Street.  So please don't drive yourself crazy endlessly going around in circles waiting to pounce on that perfect spot when there's TONS OF PARKING less than three blocks away!

WINE QUANTITIES
We'll be pouring 3-5 ounce tasting portions of wine plus an Irish Coffee with dessert (see the line-up above) totaling 17 ounces, or the equivalent of about three-quarters of a bottle of wine per person.  Pour buckets are provided for designated drivers.

WINE SALES
All of the wines poured at this dinner will be available for purchase.  See below for prices.

WINE NOTES & BOTTLE PRICES
2015 Gérard Bertrand "Crémant de Limoux" Brut Rosé ~ $14
(France) Winemaker's Notes: 70% Chardonnay, 15% Chenin Blanc + 15% Pinot Noir.  Chardonnay is the key ingredient in this blend, contributing to the Crémant's well-balanced texture and providing the delicate bubbles.  Chenin Blanc contributes vivacity and, in time, will reveal exceptional richness.  Pinot Noir supplies the exceptional color.  Boasts a beautiful, salmon-pink robe with glimmering reflections.  Delicate bubbles and an extraordinary vivacity on the palate, with a rich, indulgent texture.  A complex bouquet with long-lasting aromas of strawberry and rasberry, backed with hints of toasted bread.

2016 Paul Hobbs "Crossbarn" Chardonnay ~ $23
(Sonoma Coast) Winemaker's Notes: Daffodil yellow with aromas of Bartlett pear, yellow peach, and citrus/yellow flowers. On the palate, there are flavors of juicy pink lady apple, fresh guava, and apricot. The texture is creamy, energetic, long and salivating.

2015 J Vineyards Pinot Noir ~ $17
(California) Winemaker's Notes: Aromatic notes of exotic spice, cherry preserves and black tea. The palate is plush, jammy and ripe with flavors of spicy black pepper, cola and plum. Enjoy this wine with roasted leg of lamb with a balsamic-fig reduction or cranberry-glazed roast turkey breast with creamy mushroom risotto.

2016 Daou Cabernet Sauvignon ~ $22
(Paso Robles) Winemaker's Notes: Blackberry, cassis, plum and currant aromas greet the nose, surrounded by black olives, anise, leather, and cigar box. Notes of graphite and crushed stone mingle with just a hint of cool mint. Robust and full bodied, an undercurrent of restrained power is palpable just below the surface at the core of this wine. Firm, fine grained tannins provide ample backbone for the layers of boysenberry, black cherry, licorice and dried herb flavors. Meaty and fleshy while retaining an overall elegance, it finishes with authority and finesse.

WV&B's Legendary Irish Coffee
Our untraditional and superior (in our humble opinion) twist on the classic Irish Coffee.  We start with extra strong (decaf) French Roast and plenty of Irish Whisky, but instead of sugar and whipped cream we use a magical and potent combination of Irish Mist (which replaces the sugar) and Irish Cream (which replaces the whipped cream).

THE FINE PRINT
Due to fluctuations of supply, we reserve the right to make substitutions of equal or greater value in case any of the wines or foods become unavailable.  Please, ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF 21 ... even if your babysitter flakes out on you at the last minute!

Hope to see you here.  Buon appetito and cheers!
