The name “Gaja” is one of the most respected names in the world of wine!  Join us as we taste these wines and hear the rich history behind the family and their wineries!

The Gaja family started making wine over 150 years ago when Giovanni Gaja opened a small restaurant in Barbaresco and began making wine to complement the food he served.   In 1859, he founded the Gaja Winery, producing some of the first wine from Piedmont to be bottled and sold outside the region. Ever since, the winery has been shaped by each generation’s hand, notably that of Angelo Gaja. Under Angelo's direction, the native Nebbiolo grape was elevated to world-class esteem.

Today, Angelo Gaja, alongside Guido Rivella, his winemaker since 1970, and his daughter, Gaia, advance their legacy. To fully realize their vision, all Gaja wines are produced exclusively from grapes grown in estate-owned vineyards, including 250 acres in Piedmont's Barbaresco and Barolo districts as well as estates in Montalcino and Bolgheri.  It is from these storied vineyards, and the earth, weather and vines upon them, that Gaja wines reveal their true heart.

We will be tasting:

  • Ca’ Marcanda Vistamare White - the freshness and herbaceous notes of Vermentino combined with the remarkable complexity and roundness of Viognier.
  • Ca’ Marcanda Magari – 92 Points Robert Parker.  Aromas of balsamic herbs, notably mint and eucalyptus, ink and sweet spices. Hint of anise, dill, and lavender.   A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes.
  • Ca’ Marcanda Camarcanda - 95 Points Wine Spectator.  The flagship wine of Ca’Marcanda, and it’s only produced in exceptional years to guarantee quality.  A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes.
  • Barolo DaGromis – Rich floral and berry aromas -- as well as notes of licorice, dried herbs and spice.  Made from the Nebbiolo grape.
  • Pieve Santa Restituta Brunello di Montalcino - 94 Points  Wine Spectator .  Rich and expressive, with cherry, strawberry and earth flavors.  Long finish with spice and tobacco.  Made from the Sangiovese grape.
