Hurrah for Syrah!

Syrah is one of our favorite grapes, and, we think underappreciated. Syrah is big and bold with moderate acidity, and works well both as a single varietal and in blends. This pairing has three single varietal wines from different countries and with different styles. The first is from the Northern Rhone, where Syrah is the only red grape and the wines tend to be relatively restrained. The second is from California, from Bell, one of our favorite wineries. Surprisingly, Syrah is their best seller, and it is delicious! The last is from Australia, where it’s called shiraz, and tends to be juicier than from other areas. These are generalities, and specific wines vary from the norm. We like all three Syrahs ….come taste and compare for yourself.
