The Wine House is thrilled to welcome Badia a Coltibuono Owner/Winemaker Roberto Stucchi for an in-store tasting. Roberto Stucchi and his siblings are seventh generation stewards of the property. Their philosophical approach is to favor the indigenous varieties over international ones, and maintain both the integrity of Sangiovese and the unique terroir of Chianti Classico through organic farming practices, clonal diversity and restrained use of new oak barrels.
Badia a Coltibuono (the “Abbey of Good Harvest”) was founded in 1051 as a monastery by the Vallumbrosan order of Benedictine monks until 1810. When Tuscany was under Napoleonic rule, the monks were forced to leave Coltibuono and the monastery was deconsecrated and bought by the Stucchi-Prinetti family. After WWII Piero Stucchi Prinetti transformed Coltibuono into a modern estate, selling instead of cellaring its best Chiantis and creating international branding for the Coltibuono name, as well as promoting Tuscan extra virgin olive oil. A devotion to Badia and a respect for its history guides the current, seventh generation family members.
