California Zinfandels
Saturday, January 20th
Trapp Family Lodge Wine Cellar
Zinfandels have long grown in California, carried west from the Boston area by Italian immigrants for the most part. The grape has thrived in California for the last century and a half.
I think of it as America’s wine. Well, the name is now American via Austria probably and for the longest time no one knew where the grape originated.
Genetic testing shows that it’s a cousin of the Primitivo grape from southern Italy and so it appears we may have our Italian brothers and sisters to thank for this grape, though before Italy it was grown in Croatia, so who knows? Another American story there.
Anyway it produces big fruity wines that will warm your heart, mind and belly.
Price is $20. Please call or see the front desk to place reservations. 802 253-5742. Doors open @ 4:00. I suggest you arrive no later than 5:00 to avoid feeling rushed. People come and go during the tasting which is an informal walk around format. We end at 6:00
