We're kicking things off for 2018 with a big, extensive Italian wine tasting featuring 8 different wines from from our friends at the Haw River Wine Man.  Their Italian portfolio is deep and diverse, and they direct-import all of their wines -- that means great prices on great wines!  For this tasting, we're pouring all sorts of good stuff -- trust me, you don't want to miss it.  No RSVP is required and you do not have to be a Grape Nut to attend -- just pay $5 before you begin the tasting and have a great time.

All of the featured tasting wines are being offered at 20% off by the bottle!  To take advantage of the savings, all sales must be tendered by the end of tasting day.

1. 2016 Bidoli Sauvignon Blanc (Friuli, Italy) - Produced from the rocky soils of Friuli's Grave zone, this is stunning Sauvignon Blanc at a great price.  Laced with notes of green fig, lime, white flowers, and rocky minerality.

Special Tasting Price: $10.39/bottle

2. 2016 Cantina Frentana Cococciola (Terre di Chieti, Italy) - This rare grape is indigenous to Italy's Abruzzo region and is not very widely grown and rarely exported.  We're glad Haw River brings this one in!  With ripe peach, citrus, and delicate herbal/mineral nuances, this is a natural fit with fresh seafood.
Special Tasting Price: $9.59/bottle

3. 2016 Cordero di Montezemolo Langhe Arneis (Piemonte, Italy) – This wine has a cult following at the store -- once you try it, you'll understand why.  Arneis is native to Italy's Piemonte region, and Barolo legend Cordero di Montezemolo crafts a wonderful version.  "A bright, peach-infused version, sporting chamomile and grapefruit flavors. The rich texture is offset by tangy acidity on the finish." - Wine Spectator - 89 points
Special Tasting Price: $14.39/bottle

4. 2015 Cantina Sant'Evasio Barbera d'Alba (Piemonte, Italy) - It's our Case of the Month, and it's your last chance to try one of the best under-$10 Italian reds I've ever had.  Medium-bodied, silky, ripe and just downright delicious, this is a ton of wine for the money.
Special Tasting Price: $9.59/bottle
Case of the Month Price: $8.99/bottle on your solid case

5. 2015 Moris Farms Mandriolo Rosso (Tuscany, Italy) - This is a stunner and a tremendous value from one of the top producers in Maremma (coastal Tuscany).  "The 2015 Mandriolo is a fabulous entry-level wine from Morisfarms. Dark red cherry, plum, licorice, spice and floral notes abound. This Sangiovese-based blend offers exceptional balance, especially in its class." - Antonio Galloni - 90 points
Special Tasting Price: $10.39/bottle

6. 2014 Vecchia Torre Salice Salentino (Puglia, Italy) - It's time to head south in our tasting, and Salice Salentino is one of the all-time-great Italian "comfort wines."  Mainly Negroamaro, with a bit of Malvasia Nera, this warm, rich, and inviting red wine offers up aromas and flavors of baked cherry, dark chocolate, and spice.
Special Tasting Price: $9.59/bottle

7. 2013 Tezza Brolo delle Giare Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore (Veneto, Italy) - Love Amarone, but hate paying the price?  Buy this!  From late-harvested Corvina, Rondinella, and Oselata, the wine is fermented on the marc of the estate's Recioto (sweet Amarone).  It is then aged for 24 months in oak and 6 months in bottle before release.  The resulting wine is fabulous -- decadent, luscious, and packed with flavors of dark cherry, chocolate, and brown spices, it's a perfect winter wine.
Special Tasting Price: $20.79/bottle

8. 2012 Tabarrini Montefalco Sagrantino "Campo alla Cerqua" (Umbria, Italy) - We end the tasting with a magnificent, massive, 94-point-rated red from Tabarrini, one of the top Umbrian producers.  100% Sagrantino (the top red of Umbria), Wine Spectator loved this one.  "Richly aromatic, this dense and grippy red leads with sweet smoke, speck and spice accents that lace the black currant, forest floor and olive tapenade notes. Full-bodied and savory, showing fine focus, balance and length. Has the stuffing to age." - Wine Spectator - 94 points
Special Tasting Price: $42.39/bottle
