Sunday, Dec. 17, 1-4 pm
The English drink more sparkling wine per capita than anyone else in the world. And, with a dollop of ingenuity, a helping hand from global warming, and a lot of hard work, now they are making some of the most exiting fizz in the world, too! Although production levels remain fairly small, some of the best English Sparkling wines are making their way to the USA. Once you taste them, you'll understand what all the fuss is about.
So join us this Sunday, December 3, from 1-4pm as importer Chris Campbell of Metro Cellars shares some of these frothy treats with you for free! Chris will tell you about and pour five great wines:
- Bonney Estate Blanc de Blancs 2010
- Hush Heath Estate 1503 Brut NV
- Hush Heath Estate 1503 Rose NV
- Digby Fine English Brut NV
- Digby Fine English Reserve 2010
That last one is a beauty. You'll probably recall the famed "Judgement of Paris" tasting (the basis for the movie Bottle Shock) organized by then Paris wine merchant Steven Spurrier in 1976. Now a writer for Decanter Magazine, Spurrier did the same thing for fizz just last month, pitting the best of Champagne against England's top sparklers. Not surprisingly, he rated benchmarks like Krug Grand Cuvee and Dom Perignon 2009 highly. But soaring above those classics was Digby Fine English Reserve 2010!
We're not sure whether the results will have the same impact on the global wine market that the 1976 tasting did, but we know it's just one more sign that something very exciting is happening in England right now. Join us and taste for yourself!
