On the palate, we find flavors of black berries, pepper, and pleasant earthy tones. The rich tannin adds to the bold dry finish on the tongue.
Kosta, Wines from Georgia
Georgia is one of the oldest wine regions in the world. Traditionally, fermented juice is buried in clay vessels, kvevris, topped with a wooden lid and then covered and sealed with earth. The first and last wines Kosta will present are made with the most well-known Georgian varieties, Rkatsiteli and Saperavi, but made with modern techniques. The second wine, Orgo, however, is an Rkatsiteli made using kvevris, and is, in effect an orange wine. It will be interesting to compare the regular Rkatisiteli with the orange version.
Tbilvino, Rkatsiteli, Crisp White, Kakheti, Georgia, This wine perfectly displays an aroma typical to this variety - the high acidity in this wine makes it crisp and almost slightly sour, combined with the apple notes and yellow flowers.
Orgo, Rkatsiteli, Orange, Kakheti, Georgia, The amber hue of this qvevri made “white” wine comes from six months of aging on the skins. Lovely aromas of dried apricot, almond, truffle and hay. This full-bodied wine has grip, velvety tannin and drinks more like a red than any white you are used too.
Tbilvino, Saperavi, Bold Red, Kakheti, Georgia, this wine has a bouquet of blackberry with touches of pencil lead. There is a nice balance of brightness and smooth tannins, with flavors of blackberry, blueberry, vanilla and nutmeg
