The Feast of the 7 Fishes or Festa dei sette pesci in Italian aka La Vigilia, is an Italian-American celebration of Christmas Eve. It's a reflection of the Catholic Church tenet of abstaining from meat as a sacrifice. Although it's no longer required, some Italian-American families carry on the tradition.
Usually it's the grandmother who was willing to slave away in the kitchen but it's getting harder and harder to find these grandmothers- and very few restaurants offer this option, unless you drive to NYC. But now you have the chance to relive this tradition, right here in New Haven.
Joe Maiorano of Tre Scalini, in my humble opinion New Haven's finest Italian restaurant, is again going to offer this special menu just for us. I'll have the menu later this week but I wanted to get the announcement out now. As a special note, we do need a minimum of 25 people to run this event so please register ASAP.
