Well people are you in for a real treat! Marie Piet of H Wines was able to snag Claude Changarnier of Domaine Changarnier for a few hours this Friday for us. You've been asking for Burgundy...you've got it and you'll be able to get all the juicy details from the man himself!
This very tiny domaine in the heart of Monthelie overlooks the Auxey-Duresses and Meursault valleys and produces a whopping 1600 cases per year from ten different appelations. Being that Domaine Changarnier has been around since 1720...I guess you can say they know what they are doing.
Here's what Claude will be pouring for us...
2015 Domaine Changarnier Les Dressoles, Bourgogne Blanc - he wine has aromas of apricot, peach and toasted almonds. It is rich and supple in mouth.
2013 Domaine Changarnier Monthélie Blanc - This wine offers aromas of exotic fruits (mango, passion fruits), a lively palate with floral (white flowers) and hazelnut notes and a fruity finish with a nice acidity.
2014 Domaine Changarnier Monthélie Rouge - The nose offers aromas of red fruits (redcurrants and wild strawberries), the palate is round and fruity finishing with subtle hints of cinnamon and pepper.
2014 Domaine Changarnier Monthélie 1er Cru Champs Fulliot - The nose offers floral hints of violet and rose, the palate leaves place to subtle aromas of blackcurrant and cinnamon.
It is an elegant wine with well-structured tannins.
2014 Domaine Changarnier Pommard Les Vaumuriens -This wine is quite intense and concentrated, it requires time to mature to express all its spicy aromas.
As you can see...Claude and his family are not screwing around here!! These are textbook wines from a region we have all come to love and want more of...so, we feast on Friday!
PS...notice how the wine tastings are looking like wines that might go with an upcoming dinner we are about to have in a few weeks?
