Kermit Lynch Revisited by Averill Shepps and Brett Kern
I could call this tasting “A Step Above”. We will be sampling wines from highly acclaimed importer Kermit Lynch. Last year you thoroughly enjoyed his lower priced wines; at this event we will be tasting examples that are higher priced. He has a large selection of French wines that vary in price of course. A few years back Robert Parker decided to write about the best wine importers. He chose as the first two, Kermit Lynch and Peter Weygandt. We’ve had Peter’s wines, and now we are bringing you Kermit’s. We’ve even had Peter, speak at events, but while he lives in Pennsylvania, Kermit is located in Berkeley, where his first store opened in 1972. His current store is in the same neighborhood as Alice Waters’ iconic Chez Panisse restaurant. Both started with a similar philosophy, seeking out smaller, artisanal producers who were paying close attention to their produce and grapes in order to get the best quality possible.
To present the wines we will have a speaker from Winebow, Faith Proetto. We will be making the choices this week, and will be listing them in the next issue of the newsletter. We envision serving a prepour, and then 7 samples of both red and white wines. I have been checking out the Kermit Lynch wines in the Lemoyne store, and there are many that beckoned to me. I’m sure you will have the same experience at this tasting. It will be held at the Hilton Harrisburg, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 6th. A fine reason to attend is to try wines you will want to enjoy during the holidays or buy for others to enjoy. There will be gems.
Park in the Walnut Street Garage and present your parking ticket at the Hilton Front Desk or Gift Shop to receive parking for $2.50.
