Two local, fun guys we know—Allegro Vineyards winemaker Carl Helrich, and chocolatier Frederic Loraschi—teamed up creatively to delight and amaze us. Words cannot express how excited I am to present this event for you! Check out the pairings below, but first, grab a bib, because a mere read will have your salivary glands dancing!
2014 Reserve Chardonnay - Notes of butter and vanilla and caramel in the nose. Pear and honey and almonds on the palate. Lightly crisp citrus edge on the finish. Paired with Rise: tart citrus and refreshing notes of mango and passion fruit
2016 Merlot/Chambourcin - Briary blackberry and plum aromas. Smooth, with light acidity and low tannins. Bright cherry on the palate. Hint of butter on finish. Paired with Ultra: Association of blackcurrant and floral notes of violet water
2016 Cabernet Sauvignon - Black currant and cherry aromas. Supple tannins and firm acidity. Paired with Maracaibo: Single origin chocolate 65% cacao from Venezuela
2016 Merlot - Raspberry and cocoa notes, with full, yet soft tannic structure. Paired with Red: exaltation of fresh raspberry and dark chocolate
2013 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon - Stiff tannins and multiple oak and fruit layers of complexity. Paired with Orchid: Marriage of dark chocolate and organic vanilla beans from Papua New Guinea
2016 Pinot Noir - Aroma of black cherries. Low tannins and marked acidity. Simple and straightforward. Paired with Cream: Creamy milk chocolate ganache
2014 Bridge - Complex and firmly structured. Dark cherry, tannins, and oak/vanilla notes. Paired with Beni: Single origin dark chocolate 65% cacao from Bolivia
2016 Riesling - Semi-sweet wine (residual sugar about 3.5%) Peachy apricot nose with noticeable sweetness. Pear and candied pineapple on the palate. Light acidity. Paired with Sinful: roasted pineapple caramel (hints of vanilla and hazelnut)
2015 Forte - Fortified with brandy distilled from Allegro Pinot Noir by Old Republic Distillery in York. Alcohol approximately 20%. Residual sugar around 8%. Sweet alcohol and caramel/oak on the nose. Heat from the alcohol and acidity on the palate. Cherry/raspberry flavors blended with vanilla and oak on the palate. Finishes clean.
