Autumn banquet to mark ancient French tradition

Askham Hall will be bringing an annual French tradition to the Cumbrian countryside this November, with a special celebration to mark the release of grapes harvested in the famous Beaujolais region.

‘Le Beaujolais Nouveau est arrivée’ is a custom celebrated across France on the third Thursday in November, with an array of music and festivals. This year, a taste of the continent will be coming to Cumbria, with a banquet at Askham’s atmospheric Bank Barn – or ‘Party barn’.

Under French law, the wine is released at 12.01am on Thursday 16 November, and the Cumbrian celebrations will get underway at Askham Hall at 7pm that day.

Featuring live music from 3 piece local band ‘The Hoo’ and a bistro environment, fresh and fruity Beaujolais Nouveau will be served free flow. It will be accompanied by a menu specially created to complement the wine’s grapes and using an abundance of local produce from Askham Hall’s kitchen gardens and the Lowther family estate. That includes: Askham Hall charcuterie and salad, French style cassoulet, and Askham garden apple tart.

The evening will be hosted by Askham Hall’s SommelierNico Chièze and his Assistant Sommelier and House Manager Richard Bracken.

The event costs £35 per person (over 18s) and can be booked on enquiries@askhamhall.co.uk /
