This is an intermediate course in the art and science of wine, aimed at those already working in the trade or keen amateurs ready to explore in a little more depth. You will learn about the key grape varieties, different styles of wine, and the production of spirits and liqueurs. Tasting technique is a key component and every session will include a themed selection of wines to illustrate the main points discussed. You will learn to use the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting to analyse wines objectively and consistently.

The course runs over 8 sessions of 2 hours each, plus a final examination consisting of 50 multiple choice questions. Theses sessions take place every Wednesday evening between 7pm and 9pm at Wolfson College, Oxford.

Our courses are taught by Michael Palij, one of only 338 Masters of Wine and by W.S.E.T. Qualified Diploma holders. We source many of our wines from Michael's private cellar and as a result have the opportunity to show some rare and old vintages.

The sessions are as follows:

Session 1: Introduction To Tasting, Food & Wine, Social Responsibility
Session 2: Factors Affecting Style, Quality & Price, The Label
Session 3: Chardonnay & Pinot Noir
Session 4: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc
Session 5: Syrah, Grenache, Riesling
Session 6: Other White Grapes & Sweet Wines
Session 7: Other Red Varieties
Session 8: Sparkling & Fortified
