PARKING ~ FREE & PAID
Valet parking is available for $8.00. The drop-off point is two doors south of our entrance in front of Shakespeare at the corner of India and Winder. On-street parking is also usually available within a 3-block radius. Remember that it’s OK to park in yellow commercial zones after 6:00 and that meters are also free after 6:00. You can also park in the lot behind Shakespeare Pub two doors down, but do not park in El Indio's lot unless you want your car towed! If you can’t find parking next to the restaurant, there’s always lots of parking on San Diego Avenue and the adjacent side streets just past the Chevron station across Washington Street. So please don't drive yourself crazy endlessly going around in circles waiting to pounce on that perfect spot when there's tons of parking less than three blocks away!
WINE NOTES & BOTTLE PRICES
2016 Cass Viognier ~ $18
(Paso Robles) Winemaker's Notes: Perfumed and expressive; enticing aromas of spiced pineapple, ripe plantain, golden apple and acacia flower leap from the glass. Fruit-driven yet refreshing, nuances of pear preserves, fresh apricot, crushed coconut and banana custard envelope the palate. The fruit remains pure through a smooth and persistent finish.
2014 Ridge "Paso Robles" Zinfandel ~ $29
(Paso Robles) 100% Zinfandel. Winemaker's Notes: Deep ruby. Black cherry, stewed plum, exotic barrel spice. Ripe bramble on entry, firm acid, gravelly mineral, medium-full body, round tannins, integrated oak finish.
2015 Mer Soleil "Santa Lucia Reserve" Chardonnay ~ $23
(Santa Lucia Highlands) Winemaker's Notes: The dramatic climate of the Highlands located within Monterey County allows us to create dramatic wines. Morning fog, bright sunshine and gusting winds enable longer “hang time” for the grapes, resulting in wines of intense, complex character. With fresh, bright aromas and the taste of white peach, this wine has a vibrant acidity balanced by the lush flavors of fully ripe fruit.
2014 Proper Claret Red Blend ~ $14
(California) Winemaker's Notes: 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Petit Verdot, 22% Tannat, 9% Syrah, 7% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc + 1% Petite Sirah. It is lean, neither overly alcoholic (weighing in at 13.2%) nor overly extracted, nor overly oaked; it is precisely what one would imagine A Proper Claret to be. The wine contains a substantial dollop of Petit Verdot that adds a silky note of violets and textural elegance, in counterpoint to the lead-in-the-pencil firmness offered by the inclusion of the virile Tannat. There is a lovely minty, cedary aspect to this wine, reflective of its perfect balance with nary a prunish note to be found.
2014 Cass "Rockin' One" Red Blend ~ $28
(Paso Robles) Winemaker's Notes: A harmonious blend of 42% Grenache, 37% Mourvèdre,16% Syrah and 5% Petite Sirah displays nuances of stewed boysenberries, dried raspberry, pipe tobacco, clove and orange zest. A balanced core provides the foundation for plum preserves, fresh olallieberry, tart cranberry and vanilla candy to dance across the palate. Complex, layered flavors glide atop soft, integrated tannins and bright acidity highlighting notes of dusted cranberry, black licorice, freshly cut spearmint and a ghost of jasmine incense.
2013 Westerly "Fletcher's" White Blend ~ $20
(Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara) Winemaker's Notes: 38% Sauvignon Blanc, 24% Semillon, 22% Roussanne + 16% Viognier. Deep gold in color, with a nose of ripe stone fruits and grilled baguette. Rich and bold with notes of star fruit and quince on the palate as well as the classic nutty and waxy characteristics commonly found in Rhône whites. Unctuous and stylistically unique, it will drink well over the next 8-10 years. 398 cases produced.
2013 Margerum "Late Harvest" Sauvignon Blanc ~ $19
(Santa Barbara County) Winemaker's Notes: Nose of juicy fruit, honey and ripe melon. Pleasantly sweet yet not cloying attack of more ripe fruit nicely balanced with rich Meyer lemon acidity in the evolution and long finish. Will age gracefully through 2020 developing nectar-like aromatics and becoming richer and even more honeyed. A well balanced dessert wine that pairs well with fruit salad, custardy desserts like creme brulee, or salty cheeses.
2015 Michele Chiarlo "Nivole" Moscato d'Asti ~ $20
(Italy) Winemaker's Notes: This sweet, fragrant, lightly sparkling wine has vivid aromas and flavors of peach, apricot, grapefruit and sage on a light body with a delicate finish typical of Moscato d’Asti. An excellent companion to fresh pastries and fruit such as strawberries and peaches.
NV Yalumba Antique Tawny (375ml) ~ $19
(Australia) Winemaker's Notes: This outstanding old dessert wine is deep tawny in color, with an aroma featuring dried fruits, caramel and spices with elegant brandy spirit and hints of wood aged rancio. The palate is richly flavored featuring chocolate and caramel with fine spirit characters and persistent aftertaste of dried fruits and nutty nuances. The texture is sweet and smooth with roundness from the wood maturation and brandy spirit filling out the middle palate and providing the firm, drying finish.
