Educational     Tasting (walk around)     Wine

This week, we're pouring the rich and lavish wines from Spain's Juan Gil Family Estates.  For fans of full bodied, lush, and spicy Spanish wines, this is a tasting you don't want to miss.

Since 1916, the Gil family have been making impressive wines throughout Spain.  Their wines are seriously impressive for a number of reasons.  First and foremost, the wines offer unparalleled quality to price ratio.  In addition, these are wines that drink well right out of the gate -- no need to decant or age the wines.  And last, but not least, the wines are totally pleasure-bent.  Join us for a tasting and exploration of their delicious reds from the various terroirs of Spain.  Taste, learn, and save every Friday at Table Wine.

1. 2015 Bodegas Ateca Honoro Vera Garnacha (Calatayud, Spain) - From old, high altitude vineyards planted in rocky soils, the wine is fermented in stainless steel and aged for 2 months in French oak.  "Sweet and pliant on the palate, offering juicy blueberry, spicecake and violet pastille flavors and a bracing undercurrent of smoky minerality." - Vinous Media - 90 points

2. 2014 Cellars Can Blau Montsant "Can Blau" (Montsant, Spain) - A blend of 40% Carinena (aka Carignan), 40% Syrah, and 20% Garnacha from the slate, clay, and limestone soils of Montsant, this one is aged for 12 months in French oak.  We refer to it as "Poor Man's Priorat!"  "Ripe black and blue fruit scents carry smoky mineral and licorice nuances and a subtle touch of violet. Sappy and seamless in texture, offering sweet boysenberry and floral pastille flavors and a jolt of enlivening spiciness." - Vinous Media - 91 points

3. 2014 Bodegas Juan Gil Monastrell (Jumilla, Spain) - From old, rocky, low yielding vineyards in Southeastern Spain, this 100% Monastrell-based (aka Mourvedre) wine is aged for 12 months in French oak.  "Deep-pitched black and blue fruit aromas are complemented by suggestions of woodsmoke, incense and candied violet, and a subtle hint of vanilla emerges with air. Juicy and deeply concentrated yet lively as well, offering sweet blackberry, cherry cola and floral pastille flavors and a refreshing jolt of white pepper." - Vinous Media - 91 points
