Greetings fellow wine lovers!
I have been leading a tour of the Finger Lakes (NY) Wine Country over the past fifteen years, and thought you might be interested in the details for Finger Lakes 2017. I'd love if you join us this year for more wine, food, and fireside charades.
Lodging: in a 7-bedroom, 3-bathroom family lodge on 10 acres along the western side of Seneca Lake
Transportation: Our own private coach will take us around to the wineries Friday and Saturday... plenty of comfy seats and wine storage for all (We'll be out from 10:30 am through approximately 6:30 pm each day, visiting 4-6 wineries a day, along with a brewpub and perhaps a distillery.)
Meals: Breakfast and dinner at the main lodge. Lunch on Friday and Saturday will be "on the road" between wineries.
Friday lunch will be a picnic in a park by a waterfall with sandwiches -- your choice -- from Green Mountain Deli in Watkins Glen. Saturday is a picnic lunch in a park at the base of Keuka lake.
Meals typically include 3-4 pasta dishes Thursday night (Rigatoni in a Pepperoni Cream Sauce, Linguini in a Roma Tomato, Balsamic & Proscuitto Sauce, Penne Mediterranean, Tuna and Tomato Sauce with Capers and Vermouth, and Puttanesca); Ribeye steaks with traditional accompaniments on Friday; and various chicken dishes (Chicken Marbella, Chicken Tenderloins in mustard cream sauce, Chicken in wine and garlic, etc.) on Saturday night. Vegetarian options can be arranged.
Getting there: Attendees drive themselves to the lodge, the trip from the DC metro area takes approximately six hours, but it's a relatively peaceful (non-Beltway) drive up Rte 15 (soon to be interstate 99).
Activities: The lodge features a bonfire pit, large living room with fireplace, back lawn overlooking the lake, our own private dock, several lawn games, and a small rowboat & paddleboat.
On Friday we'll visit the wineries of Seneca Lake, which in the past have included Herman J Wiemer Winery, Fox Run Vineyards, Earle Estates Winery & Meadery, Red Newt Cellars, Standing Stone Winery, Lamoreaux Landing Wine Cellars, Torrey Ridge Winery, Bagley's, Fulkerson Winery, Glenora Wine Cellars, Lakewood Vineyards, and our traditional final stop of the day at Wagner Vineyards and Brewing Company with a deck overlooking the sunset on the lake.
On Saturday we'll head over to Keuka Lake and visit some of these places: Keuka Springs Vineyards, Hunt Country Vineyards, Heron Hill Winery, Bully Hill Winery, and our traditional final stop at Dr. Konstantin Frank's Vinifera Wine Cellars overlooking the lake.
All of our visits will be pre-scheduled, as most of the wineries like to set up a special area for our tastings. Further information on all of these locations is available on the Finger Lakes Wine Country web site.
