Solvang Danish Days Celebrates 81 Years, September 15-17, 2017, with Expanded Opportunities to Indulge in the City’s Danish Festivities, Food & Drink
-- A Weekend of Aebleskiver, Viking Burgers and Live Music: Extended Viking Beer & Wine Garden Hours, New Solvang Restaurant & Bar Participation, and Free Saturday Concerts --
“Solvang Danish Days” (www.solvangdanishdays.org), California’s premier Danish heritage festival, celebrates 81 runs this year with a three-day event weekend line-up, Friday through Sunday, September 15 through September 17. The 2017 version of the annual festival will continue to blend more modern Danish practices with traditional ways, in an effort to exemplify everything Danish, providing ample opportunity for guests to sample one of the many facets of Solvang’s Danish culture, both past and present-day.
Foodies headed to Solvang Danish Days will, once again, have their pick of two Aebleskiver Breakfasts, offered on both Saturday and Sunday mornings (8:30 AM-12:30 PM), on a closed-to-traffic street in the middle of town. Advance, on-line ticketing for either of the weekend’s Aebleskiver Breakfasts will afford eaters swifter entrance to the Breakfasts, while those seeking a side of competition with their famous Danish pancake rounds, may enter the free Aebleskiver Eating Contests, also scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday mornings (11:30 AM).
The Danish Days Viking Beer & Wine Garden will provide guests with another adventure in eating, via the Festival’s own “Viking Burger”: Medisterpølse (Danish sausage) patty topped with Swiss cheese, grilled onions and an array of condiments, served atop an onion bun. The Viking Beer & Wine Garden will also quench attendees’ thirsts with extended hours (Friday, 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM and Saturday, 11:00 AM to 10:30 PM), plus a spirited mix of imbibing options: Pacific Beverage Company will be pouring the iconic Danish suds, Carlsberg, joined by Santa Barbara Wine Country labels such as local winery, Lucas & Lewellen Vineyards.
Solvang Danish Days 2017 will offer a conveniently-packaged Danish-style experience with an on-line purchase only “Dane For A Day” VIP ticket bundle, for guests looking to “live like Vikings” throughout the event weekend. Aebleskiver Breakfast tickets and “Dane For A Day” VIP ticket packs are now available for advance, on-line purchase, here: http://www.solvangdanishdays.org/.
*** New to Solvang Danish Days this year, is a town-wide restaurant promotion; participating Solvang restaurants and bars will be "cooking up" something special just for Danish Days weekend, further details TBA. ***
Overall admission to Solvang Danish Days is free, and guests-on-a-budget have plentiful entertainment options including a free Saturday, September 16 rock concert line-up in the heart of downtown Solvang, adjacent to the Danish Days Viking Beer & Wine Garden (Copenhagen Drive, between 1st and 2nd Streets). About the Solvang Danish Days Foundation
In early 1995, the Solvang City Council approached Santa Ynez Valley residents from long-established, local Danish families and other interested groups, about possibly setting up a non-profit foundation – Solvang Danish Days Foundation – to formally plan and organize the increasingly popular, annual Danish Days festivities. The original Solvang Danish Days Foundation board members were Ken Andersen, Brenda Anderson, Hans Birkholm, Max Hanberg, Howard Petersen, David Rasmussen and Henry Skytt. The Foundation members meet throughout the year to ready each year’s celebration. Donations and volunteers for the event, are always welcome; please contact the Foundation for more information.
