We invite you to join National Geographic photographer Catherine Karnow, as well as master sommeliers and chefs on a 9-day luxury cruise to taste and learn about some of the world's great grand crus wines, dine on fantastic cuisine, explore old world chateaux, and charming villages, while combining the pleasures of sailing and the fun of photography. This nine-day itinerary aboard the Le Soléal - with its elegant 132 staterooms and suites - takes us to premier wine chateaux in Bordeaux, including Chateau Latour, and charming St. Emilion; Bilbao and its remarkable Guggenheim museum, the seaport of Oporto, as well as a day of natural beauty on the tiny Ile d'Aix, where we will have a chance to enjoy a leisurely walk or bicycle ride past vineyards, marshes, sandy coves and white sand beaches.

Catherine Karnow will be with us to guide you towards improving your photography no matter what level you are at, with whatever sort of camera or smart phone that you have. We will also be enjoying evening presentations on "Tips and Tricks to Better your Photography" and "Adventures as a National Geographic photographer."

From the port of Leixões, you will head to Porto. The capital of the Northern region,

this “city of granite” is notably renowned for its wine but also for its
remarkable historic centre listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Your next call, Bordeaux, in South-West France, is the world wine capital

You will be seduced by the region’s rich wine-making tradition
as well as it its gastronomy and renowned specialities,
such as the famous cannelé bordelais pastry.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, the daughter of an American journalist, San Francisco-based, National Geographic photographer, CATHERINE KARNOW seems destined to have travel and photojournalism at the center of her life.  She graduated Brown University with honors degrees in Comparative Literature and Semiotics. Catherine has covered Australian Aborigines; Bombay film stars; Greenwich, Connecticut high society; and an Albanian farm family.  She also gained unprecedented access to Prince Charles for her 2006 National Geographic feature, “Not Your Typical Radical.”

Her retrospective: Vietnam 25 Years Documenting a Changing Country opened at the Art Vietnam gallery in Hanoi in April 2015 and Catherine was profiled in a PBS documentary about art in Vietnam, which aired May, 2015.  Her work appears in National Geographic Traveler, Smithsonian, French & German GEO and numerous other international publications.

Catherine has lived in France several times, photographed many assignments for National Geographic, and completed two books on France. She speaks fluent French.

Catherine's passion for photography carries into her love for teaching. She teaches the National Geographic Weekend Workshops in San Francisco. She also gives private workshops and teaching seminars all over the world, for a myriad of private, corporate and editorial clients, as well as her own Signature Photo Workshops in Umbria in May, and Vietnam/Cambodia in October.

During my one month private workshop traveling throughout Southeast Asia with Catherine, she really opened up the world of photography to me. I think she is extremely creative and terrific as a coach and as a person. I made huge strides and she gave me a wonderful sense of confidence. It was a truly a transformative month.
