We are kicking off the New Year in style with our bi-annual Grand Bordeaux Tasting presented in conjunction with the Unions des Grand Crus. This is the perfect way to taste the 2010 Bordeaux Vintage and see for yourself just how good and unique the wines really are.
The initial reports and tastings have confirmed that 2010 is an excellent vintage with the quality very high rivaling the like of the 2009, 2005 and 1982 vintages. Yet the 2010 vintage stands out for its uniqueness. It is a vintage that really is one unto its own due to the structure and sheer power the wines possess. This is the perfect opportunity to get a firsthand look at how the vintage is shaping up right before the wines begin to arrive.
Here is a reminder on what the major press has had to say regarding the 2010 vintage:
“...2010 has produced another year of compelling Bordeaux that will go down as a prodigious vintage alongside 2009. Take your pick – this news is either tragic or mythical, but I have tasted enough wines from 2005, 2009 and 2010 to realize that these may be the three greatest Bordeaux vintages I have tasted in my career.” Robert Parker the Wine Advocate 5/11.
“2010 Bordeaux A Modern Classic...96-99 points.” Wine Spectator 6/11.
“The 2010 vintage IS an exceptional year for red, and harks back to such great years as 2000, 1990, 1986, 1961, and may be even 1929, but the wines are made with much more precision in the vineyard and cellar giving them a more polished character than historic vintages.
...nobody has to only focus on the high-scoring wines of 2010. So many excellent reds and whites will be available to buy. I found hundreds of the more than 650 wines I tasted to be of outstanding quality, and many are going to be very affordable, especially compared to the big names. I think that many wonderful wines in the $20 to $50 range will be available from 2010 when they are finally bottled and brought to market.” James Suckling 4/11.
