Sure, as red wines go, Chile is known for killer cabernet sauvignon, but its "native" grape of carmenere is really coming along, with advances in both better growing conditions and more skilled winemaking. (January 2012's "Wines of Chile" awards were a revelation.) And Argentina, of course, has put malbec back on the world's grape growing map. But do you know why, exactly?
